5000 years after Sumerians bury the greatest wealth of knowledge the world has ever known, traces of it surface in the 20th century, accompanied by omens and senseless executions. The Vatican is in a frenzy to unearth and possess the treasure; a ruthless worldwide brotherhood will stop at nothing to seize and control it; innocent people are doomed by obscure connections with it. Now a rigorous race to stop the bloodletting begins. In bizarre quirks of fate, an obsessed French policeman, an alluring philology professor, an ex-Mossad rabbi, and a powerful Jewish family are thrown together to unravel a triad of ancient codes and enigmas. They must battle their way through Europe, outwit assassins, and defend against overwhelming foes. One will survive an actual death experience; some will make it back.... But how do they convince governments to aid them in their quest? What happens if they run out of time? And can they mastermind the phenomenal revelation that will change civilization forever?

The author himself is a 32nd degree Mason....that's what you read at the last page of the book "About the Author". Yet, he's written a book about secret society, one that calls "Eternal Brotherhood of the Snake" and one that "which will remain secret until humanity is ready for the truths we hold dear." Harry Smith, the author's half persona and the President of the brotherhood, pointed out quite plainly that "Our mission is the perfect blend of science and religion into one mighty, all-powerful world order." The other half of the author's persona, Jean-Etienne Marchaud, a French police Inspector, vowed to investigate and expose the plot by the brotherhood after a homicide file of Louis Saint-Clair was put on his desk. A 14-page document called "Le Serpent Rogue" was stolen from the National Library of Paris. The two cases must be connected. Marchaud made friend with the Interpol agent Antonio Bennaducci and they followed the leads and fought closely together, as one after another, bodies were found in relation to the case. Overall, the story is fast-paced, the plot is just intricate enough and not complex. The writing comes with a strong awareness of the environs in the streets of Paris, and a touch of heart among the characters. There is room for continuation of the story in future too.

The Red Serpent International Action Adventure edition by Larry Merris Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Being a lover of historical fiction, I was really looking forward to diving into The Red Serpent. I was not disappointed. It pulled me in from the beginning and is very difficult to put down. The intricate details and well researched history will put you in the story. The descriptions of locations in France made me want to book a trip tomorrow. I'm looking forward to future books from Mr Merris.
The brotherhood is no match

for Jean Marchaud and Serafina !

Loved the ending sequences...when can I see the movie?

Wow! What a lot of work. Thanks for a great read.
Piqued my interest in religious history. Introduced me to some fascinating international personalities. Loved their French expressions! Weaved a fast-moving tale of intrigue as powerful forces sought to gain control of priceless artifacts. Bring on the next one!
I had the luxury of reading an early copy of The Red Serpent pre-press and was truly impressed by the characters, the research, twists, and action. The author is a personal friend of mine and I can attest to the long hours of dedication and passion he's put into this work, and it shows. Looking forward to the 2nd book coming soon. HURRY!
Have not finished the book but it is a good read so far.
The author has done a lot of research, but his writing style doesn't measure up. I got through almost half of the book in about eight or ten attempts, but just couldn't connect with the book, so gave up so I could spend the time on a book that I could enjoy. It seemed like the author was writing from an outline that was very detailed, but was just putting words together to fit the model. There was no passion in his writing. A good editor could have done this book a favor.
This book has a complex plot, with ancient texts promising the betterment of humankind and historical bad guys determined to obtain the secrets for themselves or let no one have it, and good guys trying to obtain the secrets to make the world a better place. It also has its share of researchers trying to solve the mysteries of the ancient writings, and plenty of shoot-outs. My problem somehow all of this was so slow-moving that I kept forgetting where I was. This type of book is supposed to feel like a roller coaster ride ... instead, this was a jerky merry-go-round.
